According to the Income Tax Department notification, income tax returns can be e-filed without attaching Aadhaar and PAN till 5August 2017. The deadline for attaching Aad PAN to Aadhaar, which was initially extended from 31st August 2017 to 31st December 2017 and later will be 31st March 2018. It has now been extended to March 31, 2019.
The deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN has been extended from 31st December 2019 to 31st March 2020.
Keep in mind that the income tax return can be filed without a link unless the PAN and Aadhaar are attached, the tax department will not process the returns. In either case - people can visit the department's official e-filing website to link two identities in the same database or in cases where there is a slight inconsistency.
Online Linking of PAN with Aadhaar Number
Online connection of PAN with Aadhaar Number can be made by logging in to Income Tax e-Filing Portal. There are two ways to do this on the Income Tax Portal.
1. Without logging into your account (2-step procedure)
2. Logging in to Your Account (6-step by step)
I will discuss Without logging into your account (2-step procedure) because this process is very easy and simple.
Step 1
Go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on the link to the left - Link to Aadhaar
Step 2
Enter the following details:
Pan no.
Aadhaar No. And
Name as mentioned in Aadhaar card (avoid spelling mistakes)
Click Submit after entering the details. Post verification will be confirmed from UIDAI.
In case of any minor contamination of Aadhaar name, Aadhaar OTP will be required. Make sure the birth and penis are exactly the same in the pan and in the bottom. In rare cases where the Aadhaar name is completely different from the PAN name, the connection will fail and the taxpayer will be prompted to change the name or any name in the PAN database.

Get after the link with Aadhaar card, you can check your PAN with the status of the Aadhaar card link.
Enter your same PAN and Aadhaar number and you can see your status after the Clip View Link Aadhaar status.
Link the Aadhaar number and PAN via SMS
Now you can also link your Aadhaar and PAN via SMS. The Income Tax Department has requested taxpayers to attach Aadhaar to their PAN using an SMS-based facility. This can be done by sending an SMS to 567678 or 56161 Send an SMS from your registered mobile number to the following format: 567678 or 56161: UIDPN <Space> <12 digit base> <Space> <10 digits PAN> Example: UIDPN 123456789123 AKPMM2124 M.
